Diwali : The Festival of Lights is for All

Why do we celebrate Diwali?

It’s not just the festive mood in the air that makes you happy, or just that it’s a good time to enjoy before the advent of winter.

There are 10 mythical and historical reasons why Diwali is a great time to celebrate.
And there are good reasons not just for Hindus but also for all others to celebrate this great Festival of Lights.

1. Goddess Lakshmi’s Birthday: The Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi incarnated on the new moon day (amaavasyaa) of the Kartika month during the churning of the ocean (samudra-manthan), hence the association of Diwali with Lakshmi.

2. Vishnu Rescued Lakshmi: On this very day (Diwali day), Lord Vishnu in his fifth incarnation as Vaman-avtaara rescued Lakshmi from the prison of King Bali and this is another reason of worshipping Ma Lakshmi on Diwali.

3. Krishna Killed Narakaasur: On the day preceding Diwali, Lord Krishna killed the demon king Narakaasur and rescued 16,000 women from his captivity. The celebration of this freedom went on for two days including the Diwali day as a victory festival.

4. The Return of the Pandavas: According to the great epic ‘Mahabharata’, it was ‘Kartika Amavashya’ when the Pandavas appeared from their 12 years of banishment as a result of their defeat in the hands of the Kauravas at the game of dice (gambling). The subjects who loved the Pandavas celebrated the day by lighting the earthen lamps.

5. The Victory of Rama: According to the epic ‘Ramayana’, it was the new moon day of Kartika when Lord Ram, Ma Sita and Lakshman returned to Ayodhya after vanquishing Ravana and conquering Lanka. The citizens of Ayodhya decorated the entire city with the earthen lamps and illuminated it like never before.

6. Coronation of Vikramaditya: One of the greatest Hindu King Vikramaditya was coroneted on the Diwali day, hence Diwali became a historical event as well.

7. Special Day for the Arya Samaj: It was the new moon day of Kartika(Diwali day) when Maharshi Dayananda, one of the greatest reformers of Hinduism and the founder of Arya Samaj attained his nirvana.

8. Special Day for the Jains: Mahavir Tirthankar, considered to be the founder of modern Jainism also attained his nirvana on Diwali day.

9. Special Day for the Sikhs: The third Sikh Guru Amar Das institutionalized Diwali as a Red-Letter Day when all Sikhs would gather to receive the Gurus blessings. In 1577, the foundation stone of the Golden Temple at Amritsar was laid on Diwali. In 1619, the sixth Sikh Guru Hargobind, who was held by the Mughal Emperor Jahengir, was released from the Gwalior fort along with 52 kings.

10. The Pope’s Diwali Speech: In 1999, Pope John Paul II performed a special Eucharist in an Indian church where the altar was decorated with Diwali lamps, the Pope had a ‘tilak’ marked on his forehead and his speech was bristled with references to the festival of light.

May this Light of Happiness....
Light up Yourself.
May this Diwali be
The Most Sparkling & Lighting
The Sights & Sounds filling up Your Heart with Joy & Happiness...
Wishing You and Ypur Family ......
A HAPPY DIWALI

Let's See The Bridges on Godavari at Rajahmundry

I am Going to Take all of you to one of the beautiful places in Rajahmundry,East Godavari Dist.

"The Three Bridges on River Godavari at Rajahmundry"

This is the newest bridge and was constructed by the Hindustan Construction Company.

The New Godavari Bridge as viewed from Godavari railway station. One can see the other end of the bridge quite clearly as the bridge is dead-straight. Notice also a future provision for doubling of the line on the right hand side.

Another view of old and new bridges in the Rainy season...

Havlock bridge provides an intersting foreground for the ultra-modern rail bridge which was finished in the mid 90s. The distance between them is not much. The one in the foreground is the now decomissioned Havelock bridge built in 1900, while The one in the background is the 70s vintage Road-cum-Rail bridge.

The New Godavari Bridge: Constructed by the Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), this bridge is a modern day engineering feat. It is a unique bridge that is based on 28 bow string arch girders with equal spans of 97.5 m, thus making the total length 2.730 km. The bridge is fit for 250 kmph services.

The Old (left hand side) and the New (right hand side) Godavari Bridges.

The old Havelock bridge across Godavari at Rajahmundhry that was retired after more than a century of service. More than 100 years old, it still stands strong and sturdy.

The Old Godavari Bridge or the Havelock Bridge: Now decomissioned, this bridge has 56 spans and is 2.754 kms long. It was constructed with stone masonry and steel girders and certainly a marvel of British engineering.

The road-cum-rail bridge on River Godavari as seen from the road. A slightly different angle to accomodate the whole length of the bridge.

My first Visit to North Telangana

The most awaited day of the month has came, the second Sunday………..
We’ve planned to go to Mahesh’s (one of our friend & colleague) house in karimnagar dist. Mahesh has arranged the car. Me and my friends Ramya, Karthik,Teju,Ram,Mounika, and Rakesh are very eager to see karimnagar.
Because none of us has seen north telangana previously except Ram.
We have started at 6:00 AM, from satyam Technology Center (STC). We stopped at pragnapur, (Medak dist) to have breakfast….we had Dosa, poori, makka gari (a special of Telangana, made by corn&daal).
Mahesh & Ram told us that it would take 4 hours to reach karimnagar, because the highway NH-7 is one of the busiest in A.P.
As the villages passing on…corn, cotton fields welcomed us to north telangana. But the things which made all of us to fear are the turns, up downs of the road. There are many accident zones where many people lost their lives. So we asked to driver bhayya to go slow .
We haven’t seen many people on the roads of medak, we took siddipet bypass road. We have seen many fruit vendors beside road, we’ve stopped & took a basket of fruits, they are very cheap.
The sun reached hights & we felt very hot. At last we reached Karimnagar city & Mahesh’s village ‘GUNDI’ alias Gopalraopet is around 35 km from city.
We reached there at 11.15 pm. We’ve received a warm welcome from Mahesh’s family.
After having a good lunch, we went to cotton fields of Mahesh. A 30-40 feet agricultural well which do not have any fence made me to fear.
All of us sat under mango trees &took some snaps. Me & Mounika played with the water. Ramya gave a Jhalak to us by driving the luna. They plucked the raw tamarind.
After having snacks & Tea, we headed towards Karimnagar city , where Ram’s grandparents stays. I heared a sound… in a moment that our qualis dashed a bike. They are drunk and came in the wrong way. They started a little argument, Rakesh(Hero of the Day) gave 200/- immediately to settle the issue (ofcourse afterwards he had collected that amount from Mahesh… ha ha ha……)

We reached Ram’s grandparents home, we met them, also Ram’s mom, we had ‘pakodi, chai’ we went to ‘saibaba temple’ & then started to Hyd....
The traffic made us to fear a lot. No one has ‘half blacked their lights, the turns and lights are horrible.
Atlast we reached STC at 11 P.M. I never expected the telangana is such a beautiful.we enjoyed a lot in quails with ‘Manisharma’s compositions’.

One thing we never missed is to have a heated debate about ‘separate statehood of Telangana’.
